NPS South West Ltd (NPS) is currently in a position to recruit a Land Agent / Rural Surveyor into their Exeter based team, challenging you with managing an estate that is continuously evolving with industry pressures and economic drivers. Your primary role will be to assist the Director of Estates & Valuation in managing the successful Devon County Farms Estate – a c.9,500 acre Estate comprising of 68 residential equipped farms let to entrepreneurial new entrants into farming.

This is an exciting time to join NPS, as we are currently experiencing a high level of tenancy turnover as the Estates highly competent and award-winning tenants secure new Farm Business Tenancies in the private sector.

The role will also require the delivery of agricultural planning appraisals for Local Planning Authority clients, you will be required to support the development and growth of the Rural Surveying department as new clients in both the public and private sector are secured. 

Your Experience:

We are ideally looking for a full-time Chartered professional, however we are always keen to offer career development and flexibility to the right candidate. We would be happy to offer scope for negotiation in regards to working arrangements, as well support towards RICS & CAAV memberships

You will be able to demonstrate:

  • Proven experience within a similar surveying role in a land, rural or estates environment
  • Ability to improve economic, social and environmental benefits to an Estate
  • Knowledge of relevant legislation, including Agricultural Holdings Act 1986, Agricultural Tenancies Act 1995 and Landlord and Tenant Act 1954
  • Excellent communication skills, capable of forming and developing excellent relationships with internal and external stakeholders
  • Knowledge of rural estate management, either through a degree of equivalent learning, or relevant commercial experience
  • An understanding of business plans, cash flows and budgets, farm diversification, agri-environment scheme contracts and grant funding schemes would be an advantage

Professional Memberships

  • Professional Membership of the Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors (RICS), either Chartered or the desire to work towards
  • Probationer Membership of the Central Association of Agricultural Valuers (CAAV), with the willingness to work towards Fellowship
