NPS South West Ltd (NPS) is currently in a position to recruit a Chartered Land Agent / Rural Surveyor based in Exeter. The Chartered Land Agent / Rural Surveyor will primarily assist the Director of Estates and Valuation manage the successful Devon County Farms Estate – a c.9,500 acre Estate comprising of 68 residential equipped farms let to entrepreneurial new entrants into farming. The Estate is continuously evolving and adapting to industry pressures and economic drivers. We are looking for a creative thinker who will help deliver greater economic, social and environmental benefits from this valuable Estate.

This is an exciting time to join NPS, as we are currently experiencing a high level of tenancy turnover as the Estates highly competent and award-winning tenants secure new Farm Business Tenancies in the private sector. A high level of understanding of business plans, cash flows and budgets, farm diversification, agri-environment scheme contracts and grant funding schemes would be advantageous.

The role will also require the delivery of agricultural planning appraisals for Local Planning Authority clients, you will be required to support the development and growth of the Rural Surveying department as new clients in both the public and private sector are secured. 

You will need excellent communication skills coupled with an ability to form effective relationships with our clients and Estate tenants.

Whilst we are ideally looking for a full time Chartered Land Agent, if you can demonstrate some relevant industry experience and would like flexibility within your working arrangement or qualification level then we would welcome an application from you.

You will ideally have the following experience:

  • Professional Chartered Membership of the Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors (RICS), or working (or willing to work) towards Chartered Membership
  • Proven experience within a similar Land Agent/ Rural Surveyor or related previous role
  • Ideally you will be a Fellow of the Central Association of Agricultural Valuers (CAAV), or working towards Fellowship
  • Knowledge of the Agricultural Holdings Act 1986, Agricultural Tenancies Act 1995 and Landlord and Tenant Act 1954 legislation is required
  • Degree (or equivalent) in a rural estate management related subject would be an advantage, or relevant commercial experience
