We have a great opportunity for a Building Manager to join our busy team in Peterborough.

The Building Manager will be responsible for making daily decisions on all aspects of managing the building operations to support the client at its main offices and key tenants at its key commercial building.

The role will supervise direct and virtual project teams to ensure the safe and coherent delivery of outcomes that lead to the effective delivery of operational FM building related services and commercial activities, governed by strategic service agreements; rectifying and implementing solutions designed to ensure that the building provides the most suitable working environments for its occupants, tenants and their activities.


  • Responsible for running the Building FM function, ensuring high quality services are delivered at all times
  • Leading high level project and programme teams to manage change, new entrants, and adaptations to ensure the building FM operations remain fir for purpose
  • Lead the interface between the City Council and its key commercial tenants and strategic programmes to ensure key aspects of buildings and associated risks are captured and managed
  • Responsible for identifying new business opportunities in relation to letting commercial space to third parties
  • Be the technical lead on the building FM service operations and design and implement solutions that have long term positive impacts on the building’s space and FM provision
  • Work across project and programme teams to identify solutions to technical challenges
  • Develop and document process flows for all building services relevant to the occupation of spaces for City Council staff and tenants
  • Manage and monitor Building FM budgets on behalf of PCC, maximising investment to generate greater returns
  • Ensure the safety of the building’s occupants and visitors
  • Oversee the security system and fire prevention systems and ensuring that they remain operational (and that fire and other evacuations are carried out on a regular basis)
  • Support the delivery and monitoring of contracts for soft FM services including security, parking, cleaning, catering
  • Lead on negotiations with key tenants to ensure let space works as per specification and to conduct regular strategic meetings to ensure consistency of rental income
  • Directly supervise staff including Building Administrator and building contractors working on site
  • Manage reception arrangements for key activities relating to the Building and ensure effective customer service
  • Ensure that basic facilities such as water and heating are working (including of the BMS control system and ensuring energy efficiency)
  • Comply with appropriate governance for any expenditures required
  • Allocate and manage space in the buildings referred to above (and proactively secure room hire and manage bookings)
  • Inspect the building frequently for signs of damage or wear and coordinate reactive maintenance works
  • Monitoring FM works on site including the liaison with service providers and contractors
  • Oversee and review the works carried out by contractors to ensure that the required standards are achieved
  • Manage the supply, distribution and maintenance of building access keys/ access cards
  • Support the production of business continuity plans and their execution
  • Compile and maintain required management information and records relating to the site
  • Develop regular supplier dialogue in order to maintain the best possible service
  • Ensure that all appropriate training, site and plant equipment familiarisation is carried out before handover and arrangements are in place to ensure that they are carried out throughout the contract
  • Check that the buildings are cleaned to the agreed specification
  • Carry out duties appropriate to the grade of the post, including occasional travel to other offices and sites as required.

  • HNC/HND or equivalent in a related discipline and/or can demonstrate relevant experience – Essential
  • Membership of the British Institute of FM (BiFM) - Desirable

Skills and knowledge:
